21世纪的今天在经济全球化的大背景下，国际间的交流日益频繁。在跨文化交际中会出现词汇空缺现象，一些体现文化特色的语义不存在另一种语言当中。而这种现象往往容易引起误解，原语意思不能完全传达，影响交流的有效性。因此如何在翻译过程中处理词汇空缺很重要。研究词汇空缺有助于减少英汉互译中的翻译错误，使译文更好的被听者或读者所接受从而增加国家间的交流，与此同时强化翻译在跨文化交际中的作用。词汇空缺看似简单却并不容易，这种现象已经引起了广泛关注然而其研究尚不全面。本文在前人的基础上进行了词汇空缺的分类并就其原因进行说明，及提出相应的策略对英汉翻译中出现的词汇空缺现象进行弥补。关键词：词汇空缺；词汇空缺分类；词汇空缺原因；翻译策略
